Land records: patented 2 - 200 acre tracts in Goochland County in 1746 for 40 shillings; sold same to Hugh Morris in 1749 for 40 pounds. Patented 400 acres Albemarle County 9/10/1755 for 40 shillings [Patents No. 31, 1751-56, p. 700]; 400 acres Albemarle Co. 3/3/1760 [Patents No. 33, 1756-61, p. 743]; 180 acres Albemarle Co. 3/3/1760 [Patents No. 33, p. 743]; 125 acres Bedford County (surveyed 3/18/1767); and 46 acres Bedford Co. (surveyed 11/5/1771). The last five of these tracts were contiguous, situate on Wreck Island Creek and its branches.

Know ye that for divers good Causes and considerations but more especially for and in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty Shillings of good and lawful Money for our use Paid to our Receiver General of our Revenues in this our Colony and Dominion of Virginia We have given granted and confirmed and by these presents for us our Heirs and Successors do give grant and confirm unto Thomas Ogilsby one certain Tract or Parcel of Land containing Two hundred acres lying and being in the County of Goochland on the north fork Of Totier Creek and bounded as followeth to wit ~~ Beginning at Arthur Donalleys Corner Pine running thence a new Line south fifty Degrees west twenty poles to a pine Saplin in Ambrose Joshua Smith's Line thence on his Line north forty Degrees west thirty eight poles to a pine and south fifty two Degrees West forty poles to pointers thence on new Lines north thirty Degrees west one hundred and fifteen poles to a red oak north sixty eight poles to a Chestnut Oak north fifty Degrees east at seventy Six Toteir Creek in all one hundred and Ten poles to pointers south forty three Degrees and at one hundred and thirty Six a large Branch in all Two hundred and Ten poles to a pine and south fifty degrees west eighteen poles to Arthur Donalleys corner pointers thence on his Line south fifty Degrees west one hundred and two poles ~~ crossing the north Fork of Toteir Creek to the first Station. Yielding and paying unto us our Heirs and Successors for every fifty acres of Land and so ~~~~ proportionally for a lesser or greater Quantity than fifty acres the fee Rent of one Shilling yearly to be paid upon the Feast of Saint Michael the ~~~ Archangel and also cultivating and improving three acres part of every ~~~ fifty of the grant abovementioned within three years after the Date of these presents Provided always that if three years of the said fee ~~~ Rent shall at any Time be in arrear and unpaid or if the said Thomas ~ Ogilsby his Heirs or assigns do not within the span of three years more ~~ coming after the Date of these presents cultivate and improve three acres part of every fifty of the Tract abovementioned then the Estate hereby granted shall cease and be whoely determined and thereafter it shall and may be lawful to end for us our Heirs and Successors to grant the same Lands and promises with the appurtenances unto some other person or persons as we our heirs and Successors shall think fit. This day I received from James Henderson, Thomas Oglesby who
adcnowledges himself to be regularly enlisted for Uie 13th division to serve
as a Soldier in the army of the United States of America for eighteen
months. Given under my hand this 6th day of March 1779.
