Notes for William? Lowe
In Jones Co., GA - Jeremiah Lowe and Jacob Lowe applied for letters of administration on the estate of William Lowe, ---Feb. 6, 1849 Union Recorder. The final accounting included division into equal parts; one each to Jacob, Jeremiah, John W., and six othes unnamed
Can anyone offer evidence to refute or confirm the following theory?
If, then, he had nine children, they might be:
1.Isaac Ramsey b. 1811 GA. (m. Elmira Elitora Chandler; William Candler or Chandler owned land next to William; 6th child named Jeremiah; 1838 $500 note on Isaac R. owned by William?s estate ? close relationship would explain why note was so old)
2.James M. b. 1812 Jones County (possibly not in estate records because he had moved to Harris County by 1850; children Elizabeth 1835, Laura 1837, Henry 1839, John 1841, James 1843, Isabella 1843, George 1847)
3.Jacob b. 1814 m. Kizziah Brooks Marshall 1836 Crawford county, prob. dau. of Charles or John S. Brooks (Charles, Felix, and C.Y.? Brooks bought items at William?s estate sale; Charles H. Brooks land adjoining some Lowe; Mathew Marshall [Kizziah?s father-in-law] owned land next to William 3rd District)
4.John W. m. Sarah Ann Prim or Price 1849 Crawford County ? bought many items from estate
5.Jeremiah b. 1821 m. Dec. 7, 1848 Jones Co. Elizabeth Jane Patterson, daughter of Herndon Patterson
6. Eliza (m. Joseph Patterson 1834); or Eliza Jane (m. Alexander S. Brooks 1854; H., Joseph, and Wiley Patterson bought items at William?s estate sale)
7.Mary m. Thomas Gates 1829 Jones County (Mary Gates bought items at William?s estate sale; Possibly the Mary who was administrator of Jacob;s estate 1877)
8.Susan m. John W. Lightfoot 1839 (J. W. and Thomas Lightfoot bought items including most of the land at William?s estate sale; 1849 $305 note on J. W. owned by William?s estate; John W. was doctor in Jones in 1835)
9. Abraham M. (William?s estate owned $1900 note on A. M. Lowe; Abraham signed surety for Jacob on 1841 guardian bonds for his wife?s children from earlier marriage),
Other possible relatives in Jones Co.:
Matilda Lowe m. Abraham Paul 1830 Jones County (W. and A. M. Paul bought items at William?s estate sale) first thought she was a sister, but Matilda Lowe is listed as daughter in 1847 will of Robert Hutchings)
Thomas 1795-1843 m. Ellen Tharp
Edmund,
Benjamin m. Mary Betterway 1819
Charles m. Mary Gammage 1823
George H. and William S., land and store owners in Jones after the Civil War
And in Crawford Co., GA:
Joshua , m.Elizabeth Slatter; children William J. 1854, Margaret, 1856, Thomas, 1858, Florence,1862, Lavanna1863, David,1865
Could William have been a brother of James whose children were James P. (1800-1858); Cader 1807; William H. (m. Julianna Simmons then Martha Brooks, buying and selling land in Crawford by 1830 and was J.P. in 1834, then Taylor Co., father of William R., James M., Sarah Bryant, Patience, Rosanna Gates, and Augustus); John L.;
Michael M.; Nancy Humphries ; Sarah Slocum?
Of course, none of this quite agrees with the Clark Howell bio. In History of Georgia Vol II which says Jacob was a son of Jerry Lowe who came from England and had a large plantation in Jones County.
