Notes for Theodore de Rousseau
Theodore de Rousseau was one of 169 French Refugees who came to Virginia on the Peter and Anthony in 1700 (Note 1). He was near Richmond after his arrival, but he did not did not go with most of the French Refugees to Manikan town in Cumberland Co. [Note 2). He is not among the refugees who received one of the patents for the land set aside for the Refugees, and he apparently settled in York County in the Northern Neck of Virginia (Note 3)

The Hugenot, Pub. No. 16, 1951-1953, p. 22: Letter from Oliver de la Muce to to Governor Nicholson of Virginia, Feb 15, 1701, enclosed "the List of ye Refugees given to ye Miller, as it has been sent unto mee by Messrs. d Joux and Phillipe under their hands", entitled "iste des Personnes du Second Convoy Qui Serent Toutle l'Annee a Municantion", in the second paragraph of the list is Theodore Rousseau - 1 person. Also, Collections of the Virginia Historical Society - New Series Vol. V, p. 28 Des Rousseau and Merissett: Theodore de Rousseau is in the list of Refugees who settled at or about King Williams Town to receive "of Ye Miller of Falling Creek Mill one bushel a head of Indian Meale monthly to begin in Feb.1700(1701)... Des Rousseau and Morrisett.....2"
