Notes for Edward [?] Oglesby
Edward Oglesby witnessed the marriage bond of Henry Boteler and Kesiah Oglesby [consent by Mary, mother of the bride] 4 Nov. 1796. At this point Mary is the widow of Richard. Edward COULD have been a cousin or uncle, but it seems most reasonable to assume he was the bride's older brother.
Men of Mark in Georgia (p. 524) states: "The first Oglesby of this line who came to Georgia was Thomas Oglesby. . . ; he was granted lands in Elbert County for services in the Revolutionary War, and settled at what is now known as Oglesby, Ga. Here Thomas Oglesby reared a family of ten children--nine boys and one girl." Note the discrepancy in total number of children; DAO shows 12 (9 boys and 3 girls), one of whom never left Virginia (Salley), so there is still a difference of one child--either Polly or Mary Lucinda.
