THE GARLAND FAMILY. The Garlands of Virginia are descended from three brothers, Edward and John Garland and another, who emigrated from Wales, (to which kingdom the family removed from Sussex, England) to Virginia early in the 18th century. The elder brother settled in Richmond Co., and John and Edward in that part of New Kent Co., which now comprises Hanover Co. Edward Garland married Jane, daughter of Mr. Jennings, a large patentee of land, who died in 1719, and whose wife was a Cary. The name Garland is frequently used as a Christian name in the Goode family. R. A. BROCK.
