Notes for Henry Levi Chapman
Will of Henry Chapman. 6 April 1841. All effects to be
equally divided amongst my living heirs, except Lucy and
James, each of which shall be entitled to fifty dollars more
than either of the others because of their not having had
given to them a horse as good as the others of my heirs…
my grandchildren, the bodily heirs of my deceased daughter,
Rachel M. Clough, say Helen and Zeno Clough, shall both together
be entitled to one child's part.
Witnesses William Owen, Catlett J. Atkins.
Personally came before me, Thos. M. Harris, a Justice of the
peace, William Owen, who saith on oath that the above instru-
ent of writing was made by Henry Chapman and that he saw
him sign it as above. Sworn to this 29 day of May 1841.
State of Alabama, Macon Co., County Court sitting for regular
business, Aug. 12, 1844. This day came Wm D. Benson and
William M. Chapman, administrators of estate of Henry Chapman,
dec'd (with the will annexed), for a final settlement
of said estate ••• Estate distributed to the heirs as follows;

William Eddington's "History of Fairfield" 1886 states: The Chapmans were a numberous (sic) and prominent family on McClures Creek. They have all left except Giles Chapman and the widow and children of John Chapman, who owned the old Halselville Property, just beyond the line in Chester County.
