The following notes, in addition to the associated ancestral family tree relationships, were extracted in September 2002 from Linda Harmon's very well documented family tree file at the following website:

"Note:
Christy Flynn has James Muse b. 1702 d. Mar 1758; other two sources have dates as listed.

Regina Mullen lists the same children, for the most part, but with completely different birth dates: Lydia 1726; Thomas 1728; Daniel 1730; Anne 1732; James 1734; Anna 1736; and Sophia Pope 1738.

Note from HOPKINS, pp. 157-158:
On March 15, 1749, Thomas Arrington of Prince William County, Virginia leased to William Muse of same County about 200 acres of land (part of a tract containing 660 acres, patented by his father, Wansford Arrington, 460 acres of which had been leased to JAMES MUSE, George Elmore, William Jones, and Robert Foster) in said County "during the natural lives of William Muse, Mary Muse, his wife, William Pope Muse and Hopkins Muse, his sons." On August 28, 1749, William Muse of Prince William County deeded 286 acres in said County to Joseph Sanford of Westmoreland County. This deed was witnessed by JAMES MUSE, SOPHIA MUSE, and William Toanes.

Notes for James Muse Sr.
he Muse family was in the Carthage area by the year 1755. Between 1752 and 1755 James Muse, Sr., his wife, the former Sophia Pope, and at least five of his seven children moved from Prince William County, Virginia, to Cumberland County ( now Moore County ) North Carolina. It was the son, James Muse, Jr., that resided in vicinity of Carthage, North Carolina. In May 1762, he purchased 15 acres from Farquard Campbell on McClendon's Creek, and in November 1764, he received grants of 150 and 250 acres in the same area. James, Jr., was an active member of the community. In 1777, James, Jr., owned 2,435 acres of land in Cumberland County. James, Jr., died between June 1780 and January 1782. James, Jr., married (ca 1755 ) Charity ( maiden name unknown ) and their eleven children were all born in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Cumberland County was created in 1754 and Moore County in 1784 and the James Muse, Sr., family arrived by 1755- - so Muse is a real pioneer name to this area.174
