Despite persistent family traditions, there is no evidence that SophiaPope's family was connected with the family of President GeorgeWashington. In 1734 Sophia was bequeathed land in Prince William Co,VA, in her father's will. (Dated 10 Jan 1732, probated 29 Oct 1734.)
"There is speculation that Sophia later married John Morrison andresided in Fairfield Co., SC. . . see conveyance of right & title ofthe Estate of Amy (Anny?) Muse deceased from John Morrison to ThomasMuse . . . How did John Morrison become proprietor of the property ofAmy (Anny?) unless he married the widowed Sophia Muse and gainedownership of all property belonging to Sophia and the minor orpa=hanedchildren of James Muse Sr.?"177
